KEY STAGE SKILLS are short, affordable programmes focused on improving one key skill, thereby enabling your child to feel more confident one step at a time

Choose from the range of programmes below.

Each programme lasts for 4 weeks (one hour / week) and costs £8 / week.

KEY STAGE 3 PROGRAMMES

  • Key skills for students in Years 7-9

  • Short, 4-week programmes

  • One hour per week

  • Maximum group size: 6

  • Online, so Covid-safe and accessible to all

  • 1-1 feedback given during the lesson

  • Weekly feedback sent via parent's email

PEE Paragraphs: Point, Evidence, Explanation!

Tuesdays: 18 Jan - 8 Feb, 4.15-5.15pm

Your child will learn how to:

  1. decide what to write about

  2.  select an appropriate quotation from a variety of texts

  3. write a clear and successful PEE paragraph

  4. use appropriate academic language

  5. punctuate accurately

Literary Devices:  Spot Them & Use Them!

Wednesdays: 19 Jan - 9 Feb, 4.15-5.15pm

Your child will learn how to:

  1. identify a range of literary devices within a text

  2. understand why they are used

  3. use them effectively within their own writing

Essay Writing: Whizz the basics!

Thursdays: 20 Jan - 10 Feb, 4.15-5.15pm

Your child will learn how to: 

  1. plan the structure of an essay

  2. write a quick and effective introduction

  3. review PEE / PEEL paragraphs

  4. write a clear and concise conclusion without repeating content

Poetry Analysis: No More Groans!

  1. work out what a poem is about

  2. identify key features of a poem

  3. discuss the structure and form of a poem

  4. select interesting language to analyse

  5. consider a poet's choices and techniques

 

Essay Writing: Improving Analysis
